Auckland Autosalon 2003
It was that time of year again, Autosalon. Cars came from all over to showcase their talent, chicks came from all over to see the cars and guys came from all over to see the chicks seeing the cars.
7:00am Sunday morning, after going to bed at about 2:30am, I got nicely woken up by my mate yelling ‘time to get up’ and jumping on my bed, (Ill get her back), what a great start to the day, it could only get better.
We arrived at the showgrounds at about 8:30 but hung round for a while out back with the sound off guys before deciding to go in. As we walked in all we could hear is audio systems trying to out do each other, what a sweet sweet sound. Finally as I walked around the exhibition halls I could hear that the sound off had started.
Eventually I made my way over to the stand, arriving there just as James and Jono were lining up. James in the Rabbit Hunter Mini with two 6×9s and Jono in a libero with four 12″ Alpines. James cranked out 126.1 and Jono put out 139.6, not bad, not bad.
Jason turned up in his WRX, he also brought along his SS 1-2 Beamer with two 17″ DD subs and a bunch of Viper amps pumping a whole lotta power into them. Unfortunately both the subs blew on his first run, but he still managed to pull a nice 149.5.
Once again the MAD Sounds crew were there with their Chevette and Team Battle Kat with their Civic, Bryan pulled a good 163.0, against a 158.6 by Team Battle Kat.
Thanks go out to Wiremu for organising the sound off event.
There were some VERY nice audio installs and cars on display at the event such as the Soundstream Mazda with a tick strobe, the Cyber Prelude from Australia and many more. Mad Soundz were there with a big display, including the ambulance cranking out tunes all day, and some mean deals on audio gear. Sony had a massive display, with the Sony demo cars done by Rapid Radio in Auckland and loaded with the new range of Sony products.
It wasn’t as big as I thought it would be, but the talent of the cars and the girls made up for it. All in all I thought it was a pretty good show. I’ll be going back to next years Autosalon, that’s for sure.
