Applying NZIM Stickers
Just received your shiny new NZIM sticker in the mail? Well fear not, we’ve got a fabulous guide for applying it to your pride and joy with expert precision!
Clean the surface that you wish to apply the sticker on. Make sure it is 100% dry and that it isn’t going to rain anytime soon. Apply the larger sticker first. Stickers are designed to go on the outside of your vehicle.
And finally make sure you have heaps of time… do not apply your stickers when you’re in a hurry. Some stickers may possess evil powers that enjoy laughing at your misery. Twice now I have had letters spread all over my front windscreen by unexpected rain
First up, mark a rectangle on your car in tape slightly larger then the stickers dimensions. Play around with the tape to make sure its straight and in the correct position. Once on, the sticker cannot be moved.
Peel the backing off the sticker. Make sure the vinyl lettering sticks to the front application paper/plastic crap.
Hold the sticker paper/plastic crap by the sides over the area surrounded by the tape. Make sure the sticker is straight then ask someone to push the middle down onto the surface. Next push the side bits down while making sure it remains straight. Don’t worry if the paper/plastic crap has air bubbles in it, all that matters is the letters themselves.
Grab a credit card and scrap it over the surface of the paper/plastic, pushing the lettering onto the car. Leave it for a few minutes to stick on.
Slowly peel of the paper/plastic. Make sure that the letters stick to the car and not the paper/plastic. Pulling the paper/plastic off at a sharp angle will help the letters come off easier. You may need a knife to separate the letters from the paper/plastic as you slowly peel it off.
Firmly push down on the lettering and leave for a few minutes before applying the next layer.
Follow the same procedure to apply the top layer. Be very careful to make sure that the lettering on the second layer matches exactly the gap left for it by the first layer.
Leave for at least 15mins before driving. Do not get the sticker wet for at least 2 hours.
If the sticker does get wet and the letters do move around all is not lost. Move the sticker back into place with your fingers and then let it dry for several hours or overnight.
If the letters do end up in the wrong places water can be used as a last resort to move the letters back into position. This WILL take several hours… yes that’s right several hours. You will spend the first hour or two moving the letters back into place as they slowly run down your window. It is not fun
Enjoy!
