Paul’s Car Audio Loudoff

On Sunday October 5th as part of the Kumano Street Challenge, Pauls Car Audio held a Loudoff for all the SI boys and girls. The event giving them all an opportunity to give their sound systems a real test using the Nationals Mics. With the weather looking a little dodgy a few days before hand it was great to arrive to sunshine but with a little bit of a cold Southerly Wind. A good turnout filled Robbies Bar and Bistro with many different show class cars, Toyota levins, Honda Preludes, Honda Civics, Subaru, Mazda, and the good old Mitsi Evo/Lancers. All the rides where up to a high standard with many hours and big money going into some, resulting in some crazy body kits and slick paint jobs.

The Soundoff competition attracted a good 20+ entries, from all around the South Island. These included systems from Timaru, Ashburton, Christchurch and even Dunedin for the ones that managed to miss the snow and road closures. The first round got under way at 11.30am with everyone giving it there best and most scoring around the 130-135dB range. Only four cars in the first round were able to crack the 140dB mark. The second round was the first of the eliminations using the first round for rankings, with no real upsets, all the higher ranked cars moved on. In the end the final was between Shane in the Laser, attempting to go for a new record, and a local guy with 2 Rockford 15’s. However, Shane’s sub set up wasn’t working well on the day and the RF 15″s hit a massive 145.9dB. Not a bad effort for what looked to be two subs just chucked into the car with huge ports sticking out the back of the box.

Results for the event were as follows:

Street-A
1st Shane Michael 145.0db
2nd Ryan 140.3db
