Hamilton Motorshow 2004

It was a bit of a drab morning, a bit overcast, didn’t get much sun till about 12. But nevertheless, the weather wasn’t going to stop me from attending the annual show.

As usual there was everything to please every age group, from old classics to the new Mazda RX-8, which I noticed a lot of companies using as their demo car this year.

MAD Soundz had their usual site in a large tent along with several manufactures showcasing their own products, e.g. Panasonic, Fusion, Sony. Panasonic had an RX-8 show car, decked out with the latest gear to pull in the punters and a very nice, clean install. Alpine had their latest car on show, the BMW, featuring screens in the headrests with another screen up front. The install utilized the stock door locations for the front speakers, which kept it looking stealth. The ambo was there in all its glory. The Sony subs now replaced with Fusion, making it mostly Fusion gear running the show.

Walking around outside I could hear a faint ‘BOOM BOOM BOOM’, which lead me off on my next mission, to find the vehicle that was making such a noise. As I walked around the corner it got louder and I noticed a blue car over yonder so headed towards it. Sure enough it was the culprit. The car was a blue WRX hatch in the AutoArt stand with a mad install of Lanzar gear. The amp and battery racks took over the rear seat and floor, with the doors in the front and rear redone in fibreglass. In the boot resided 2 Lanzar subs, inverted, with mids and tweeters running up the side. In the middle, above the subs, a demon head went from the amp rack to the boot, very cool.

Trends from Tauranga had a stand with some deals that couldn’t be beat. They had quite a few cars on display too, including their Ferrari, playing none other then Metallica DVDs. They also had a boat decked out with audio that sounded really good. RPM from Hamilton had a little stand with an Evo IV stocked with Lanzar products.

As I went on Friday there weren’t any soundoff cars. This year they didn’t hold a SQ comp so the usual lineup of REDLIN and PLAYLD were absent.

I don’t think it was as big as last year but I may not have covered it all. But all in all it was a good day and show.
