Nix Crew Charity Drags 2004
Over the last few years the Nix Crew annual charity drags have grown in popularity, and this year the turnout was not to disappoint. After being committed to an early start, originally arriving at Meremere there was no soundoff organisers to be seen. However, eventually some serious competitors and the officials started to turn up (maybe a little worse for wear after a hard night).
Nix Crew was formed after the death of Nikheel Pala, as a organization to promote legal drag racing and road safety awareness. The funds from the day are donated to several different charities to help remember the loss of Nikheel and others that have lost their lives on New Zealand roads. This year there was drag racing, burnouts, and the soundoffs to make it a worthwhile event in the audio calendar.
What is the world coming to? This wasn’t a good day for the guys as both street B and street C were taken out by females. I’m not to judge but it seems that more and more woman are taking car audio just as seriously as many of the male population, and they aren’t doing things by halves.
Street B was won predictably by Sheryl Warren with a very reasonable score of 148.4db, only 0.4 off her own New Zealand record. The rest of the competition was some distance behind although some very respectable scores were achieved.
Street C was some what of a more closely fought division with Mike E being beaten by Nicole Ross, despite suffering some remote control problems. The whole division was very close being only spread out by 4db from the highest, 141.5db. This was a change from some previous events as street C had a considerable turnout this time making it a very close and intersting competition
Once again super street 1-2 was dominated by Digital Designs equipment with Micheal Smith posting a very pleasing 150.2 in the Hyundai, followed closely by Jonathan Smith, with his Caliber and DD equipped van. Both vehicles attracted a lot of attention while competing as the crowd built up to see some of the soundoff action.
To cap the day off Team Battle Cat from Mad Sounds Tauranga posted a good but slightly disappointing score of 159.9db in extreme 1-2 woofer class. Try as they might they just couldnt get to that 160db level, although still very impressive.
The Big Noise Audio Isusu was looking very flash on its new feet, some 20 inch chrome mag wheels. The truck also sported some battle scars in the way of a cracked windscreen from an impressive airbag system. This vehicle will be something to watch out for in up coming shows as Wiremu goes to work installing a crowd pleasing audio system.
All round some impressive scores were achieved and many people came away happy with what they had achieved. Definately a worthwhile day out for competitors and supporting charities, all having a good time in the process, what more can you ask for!
