Auto Sound & Security Soundoff 2005
The 29th of January was a great day for the Car Audio/SPL scene in Christchurch. Auto Sound & Security put together the largest SPL event we’ve seen in Christchurch for a long time. 45+ entrants with close to 100 spectators made for a great day at their Tuam Street store.
The dB Drag Racing kicked of at approx 12.30pm with each entrant allowed two runs. Mike K had the pleasure of being the test car, posting a first run score 137.0 in his Toyota Corolla. After his hasty exit (he was on a lunch break) they started rolling in the cars in pairs. Street A was a close competition with the top two entrants within 0.5dB on each other. Adam C popped a 136.5dB from his setup to finish second behind Mike K.
Paul M (Honda Integra) and David Brouwers (Fiat Uno) were the first entrants to break the 140dB mark in a great head-to-head battle. Dave’s Digital Designs/Eaudio powered Fiat posted a first run high score of 145.0 dB. Ricky P (Mazda RX7) posted a first run score of 144.8dB and a run second score of 145.0 dB to finish first equal in Street B. Rounding of the Street B competitors to break the 140dB mark was Karl S (Mazda Familiar) with an impressive 140.7 from his Sony sub/amp setup.
Street C/Super Street 1-2/Super Street 3-4 all saw there respective class winners break 140dB. Tom R claimed first place in Street C with 141.1 dB from his Toyota. Jerry S knocked up 141.8dB to take the Super Street 1-2 title. Rob F powered home to win Super Street 3-4 with 141.2db
In addition to the competitor’s cars, Shane ran his Digital Designs/Eaudio demo car though the lanes with whooping 149.3dB.
The Red Bull girls provided free refreshments along with the Auto Sound & Security complimentary sausage sizzle kept the competitors well fueled for a long afternoon. Also on show was the Sony Explode demo car (a monstrous Ford Explorer) and stunning yellow Subaru on hydros.
The January event was the first in an eight round series with a whooping big first prize up for grabs. One lucky winner will take home a $5000.00 Auto Sound & Security boot install, a set of mag wheels and a five star rated car alarm system. The prize will go to whoever consistently scores well in their class. First, second and third place winners in each class get awarded points (5, 3 and 1 respectively). At the end of the series the competitor with the most points gets the bounty.
A big thanks to Pat and the team at Auto Sound & Security for investing in a Termlab measurement system and for organising and promoting the event, Shane/Clarkie for helping run the event and all the competitors that turned up and had a great time.
The next round is penciled in for Saturday 2nd April 2005. See you all there.
